V.M. Zito - The Return Man

This book is the very definition of 'page turner'.  The United States manages to contain an outbreak of the 'Resurrection' sickness/virus and separates into safe states/non-safe states.  Marco, the main character, stays on the uncivilized, non-safe side and is what people in the safe states call the 'Zombie Hitman'.  He makes money off of contract kills - only the target is a zombie; the remnant of someone's family member or loved one that they want taken out/killed to 'return' them to peace.  Marco remained in the unsafe states in search of his wife, Danielle - he has been searching for her corpse for 4 years.  Now, if that wasn't interesting enough, the book explains that the zombies have flickers of past memories and lives somewhere in their brains and return to places they used to frequent or places they loved almost out of habit.  It totally makes sense, and I love how the author included something like this in the novel.  Anyway, Marco's services gain recognition among government officials in the safe states and he becomes needed in a plot to obtain the anti-virus.  It's a lot more complicated than that, but I don't want to spoil any of it for someone who will eventually read the book.
Now, let's talk gore.  Holy crap.  I'm not very squeamish.  But Zito has a knack for describing something SO well that you can see, smell, taste, and hear everything that is going on.  Bones cracking, flesh tearing apart - everything.  This book isn't for the squeamish, there are parts that will make you grimace.  That's a fact.  If you're in the market for a post-apocalyptic/zombie book - this one's for you.  You won't be disappointed.
