I have no idea what I just read. I continued reading this book because of the way the author could put things into words. He, no doubt, has a gift and is quite intelligent. That said, I still don't have any idea what I just read. I think he's using large thumbs as a metaphor here, but I'm not quite sure how well that works out. Maybe I just am too closed minded to understand the complete workings of this book, but to me it was only about extremely large thumbs, whooping cranes, and lesbianism. Yup.
